Daniel Radcliffe purchasing Fiat Punto

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has decided to buy himself a Fiat Punto to celebrate his 18th birthday next month.

The actor - who gains access to his £23 million fortune when he turns 18 - has decided that he does not want to draw attention to himself by purchasing a more expensive vehicle.

A friend of the star told the Evening Standard: "Daniel is very excited about coming into his fortune on 23 July but he's not going to become flash all of a sudden and go on a mad spending spree. He is quite a sensible lad and has been planning for this day for a while.

"The first thing he wants to buy himself to celebrate his 18th birthday is a car. He's done a bit of research and really likes the Fiat Grande Punto. Daniel is concerned about the environment and this car has been voted one of the top five green cars in Britain.

"When a big, flash sports car whizzes past, people always assume it's someone rich or famous inside. It draws a lot of attention to you and Daniel didn't want this."

It's in the garage tomorrow so fingers crossed, but I have a feeling it's gonna be one of those costing more to fix than the car is worth jobbies. I don't want a new car *waaaah*

Turns out to be some gay leads causing the problem so they've been replaced, it's also had a full service too so is running nicely apparantly. Not drived it myself yet as me mother picked it up coz I was in work.

It'll be good for at least another 6 weeks til the MOT ;D

If I were ritch I would but a good car. Not that this car aint good, but still, why not by some type of car thats both environmentally friendly AND expressive.

Though im nearly 18 and I think if I had that much money I would buy a good car, a house in the city, pay of my uni-fees for next year, spend some money for my self, fill up my new house with.... stuff.... and hire someone to get me a degree at Uni!

I'd rather shag one of the people who own one of the yachts i saw in Ibiza on friday, they were huge, dad reckoned some of them were worth about £20 million and my bro in law says that 10% of a boats initial value is the amount it costs to run each year:| so a 20 million yacht would cost £2 million a year to run....£23 million doesnt really cut it does it?
