I thought I'd make a thread to discuss the book after some of us have read it. And spoilers can be posted here because I'm sure you would hate to be browsing about and stumble upon a spoiler. This happened to me with HBP :/ Anyway, I dont think anyone can post here for a while now, but I thought I would make it beforehand.
Happy reading!

This book was depressing. If I had the ability to cry I would have. Lmao jk. Saddest part for me was the death of Dobby, I dunno why it struck me so hard. He was just so heroic and my fave character. Funniest part was Hermione's "There's a secret message hidden in the icing!" and Mrs. Weasley's "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" =D Hehe. And when Malfoy's mom asked Harry if Draco was still alive, I pitied her sooo much. I kinda expected a little...more. In terms of plot, at least in the beginning and middle parts. Everything was okay but I was wishing for a whole parallel thing going on (like in the third one, where you go "OHHHH I GET IT" when they did that time travel thing. The third one's still my fave.) As the final book of the series I was hoping for a storyline that wasn't...linear. I'm not saying this plot was bad, it was still awesome and probably one of the best, but I expecting to be like '=OOOOOOO' at the end of every chapter. One thing that I absolutely loved, though, is how it ties in every single book of the series. It made me happy. Maybe it's just me and my high expectations...I dunno, I have to re-read it as I just practically skimmed the whole thing looking if Harry dies or not. xD Some parts I'm still not clear with -- who was the person who 'managed to do magic in desperate circumstances'? What was the whole importance of Harry's eyes?

Ok so I've had some sleep now and I have to say I'm quite disappointed, I was expecting an anticlimax but honestly!
The story overall was ok, but after all the stress and difficulty Harry and Dumbledore went through to get the locket horcrux, I felt that they way they managed to just get hold of the rest was a joke. Why were the deathly hallows only mentioned for the first time in this book? If we were meant to find out EVERYTHING as she said we would, how come we still don't know what Dudley saw when the dementors attacked, what the veil was the Sirius fell through, the significance of Harry having Lily's eyes? Did I miss that bit? What was so important about Petunia? What happened to Lucius and Narcissa, did they go to azkaban? What happened to 12 Grimuld place? do Harry and Ginny live there? Who was headmaster of Hogwarts when the "next generation" go there? As if Voldemort would hide his Horcrux in the room of requirement, surely it would have been in the CoS, the one place he was sure no one knew about. Why didn't Harry die when the killing curse hit him? Wtf was going on when he was in Kings Cross with Dumbledore?
I have loads more things that are bothering me but I have to go out in a minute. All in all I thought it was a good book but to me it felt like it was all too rushed and that epilogue bit (the nineteen years later bit) was just tagged on in a hurry to "finish" it.
(seriously whats wrong with wizards and witches? why can't they name their kids properly?)
In a nutshell, I'm gutted.

James and Lily are normal names, ay? So I thought it was a brilliant book. I founded it enjoyable all the way. Plus I read it all, didn't skim through things or anything? I am a little lost. Did anyone read the bit where Lily was talking to Snape in Snapes memory and her eyes turn into slits? Whaaa? I dont understand? And the kings cross thing kinda seemed symbolic to me? Like it was the place where Harry's life began, Kings cross, the entrance to the hogwarts express and it seemed like a place where it might end. Like Limbo land? Though there are somethings, like Abs said, weren't unanswered, but didn't need to be? It could all be blamed on magic? I dont think the other Horcruxs were easy to get either? But I must say though, I liked her ending. It seemed very simple. Expressed that Harry has a good life, rather then a full life. And although it didn't answer everything, I didn't think it should have it. The rest was the be thought of using our greatest tool, our imagination. (yes I know, I am a tool!) But I must say, out over everyone who dies, the last one I wanted dead was Lupin! Sevourus, snape, hedwig, moody and all the rest were ok! But Lupin and Dobby and maybe tonks were the worst to die! I hated that all the Marauders were dead! Then when Dobby died that was horrible! I seen fred coming, no real shock!

We don't know what Dudley saw, or what the veil was, and I probably missed the importance of the eyes. It should be in there though, Rowling said it was extremely important!
Petunia wanted to go to Hogwarts and wrote a letter to Dumbledore. He agreed, but then she didn't want to anymore -- was that Dumbledore's howler, "Remember my last [letter then, I assume]?" So Petunia owed him for his generosity? =S I dunno about the Grimauld place or about the Malfoys.
King's Cross was like, WTF?? I didn't get the moaning baby on the floor. And it was supposed to be all a dream or something in his mind. Voldemort's attack didn't work because Dumbledore was disarmed by Draco in book 6, Draco was disarmed by Harry who then became the master of the Elder Wand. When Voldy cast his spell, Harry did Expelliarmus with his Elder Wand which overpowered Voldy's wand and caused it to rebound. I think. So what was the whole importance of them sharing a bond? Though I think that's why he survived when Avada Kedavra hit him. They were protected by Lily's magic or something?
When I read the beginning of last chapter I was like OMG DUMBLEDORE IS ALIVE!! I'm dumb. =) The names were cheesy. "Albus Severus"? xD
Lily's eyes as slits meant she had this expression on her face: -__-
EDIT - Ok so if you read the article on Wikipedia it explains it...
Harry drops the ring and reveals himself and is quickly hit by an Avada Kedavra curse. However, Harry awakens in what appears to be the King's Cross railway station and meets the deceased Albus Dumbledore. Here, it is explained that Harry cannot die while Voldemort lives, since he used Harry's blood to recreate his body, and Lily's protection binds the two. It is unclear if he actually dies, or it is merely a dream during which Dumbledore paid him a visit. Harry finds that the killing curse destroyed the part of Voldemort's soul which was concealed inside him, represented by a wounded dying creature hiding in a corner of the dream-train station. He also discovers that Dumbledore sought the Hallows, with Grindelwald, for less than noble reasons, resulting in the death of his sister Ariana during a duel between Albus Dumbledore, Aberforth Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Only Harry is worthy of possessing the Hallows. It is also revealed that Harry's wand reacted against Voldemort's borrowed wand because Voldemort's wand had once had the Priori Incantatem spell used on it by Harry's wand; it would have a similar reaction against Voldemort next time, even if the wand he was using was not his.

Ha ha! Silly me! I thought she had snake eyes! I was confused?
I liked the Hogwarts express epilogue, found it interesting. It was that harry had finally free. Lily and James were ok names, though I dont know about Albus Severous! Its very corny.

Albus Severus cracked me up; it was like a bad fanfic I didn't like the whole epilogue thing at all. But besides that, I can't complain xD

Kay so i finished reading a couple hours ago!
The book was def. a good one....but idk...i like it b/c its nothing i imagined it would be. I mean...Harry surviving was a bit predictable xD but not how it actually happened.
Overall, I think the middle of the book was just a whole bunch of running around and hiding places...but the part that got me the most was when Harry found out he had to die. Right there tears started flowing from my eyes as I realized he was so brave to sacrifice himself now..and i actually liked the idea that he would die this way but then when he survived it...it was like....c'mon that was the perfect heroic ending!! but meh...it was just crazy how every couple of pages, someone else falls dead. Dobby's death was really sad...and so was Lupin and Tonks'...but after a while, it seemed worthless cuz so many ppl died, it didn't matter anymore. Snape's death was just not as emotional as i hoped...
Now i feel so sad after finishing the whole book...as if someone i know has died...that book is so depressing! i feel bad for no reason...
About Lily and Harrys eyes...I think the fact that they were the same meant a lot to Snape. He hated Harry, but his eyes reminded him of his love for Lily [AWW!] and it reminded him to keep going on and playing as a spy just for her sake.
At least everything is over. I'm hoping JKR does an interview where she answers all the questions we're pondering. The book didnt answer everything we wanted and im sure she can tell us now that its out.

I think Mary is right with the significance of Lily's eyes, I was going to say the same thing.
I thought the book was amazing. I was really sad about Dobby, Lupin, Tonks, and Freds deaths, though. I knew there were going to be some sad deaths though. I saw the 'Harry being a Horcrux' thing coming, but I thought the Horcrux would be his scar so then when Voldy tried to kill him it would just destroy the scar.
I actually liked the epilogue. I thought it was amusing. I was a tad surprised that Hermione and Ron didn't name their kids Fred and Tonks or something. But Hugo? Where the hell did they get that one from?!
I wish she would have said who the new Headmaster/Headmistress was. I'm thinking it might be McGonagall, though.
It seems odd now...knowing that it's over. There are no more coming out. It's sad.
