I /just/ finished reading; just as the clock in the living room I was cemented in struck 10:15. And I am
FUCKING AMAZED.
I loved it. I sweat it. I breath it. I fuck it. I OMGOMG I FUCKING ADORE ITTT. FUCKING SHIT
FUCKING HELL
HARRY POTTER IS FUCKING OVERR
we finallyy knowwwwwwwwwwwww
fucking shittt!
=) !
Anyway. *breaths* I did like it, if you haven't gotten that point already. It took me so long to read (3 days? If I had forsaken the external world to give all my love and care to the book I could have been more than half through in that many hours...) because of work, a beach excursion with David, and being overcome with fever today. And oh yes, before I get to my opinion of the book - I am going to rant about how I went about BEFORE reading it. =]
So back to the motherfucking fever.
I woke up this morning, and by "waking up," I mean not pleasantly allowing my eyes to slide open well after 10 - I mean heaving and choking on my own flem and vomit at 'round 2:33 AM. After crawling to the kitchen for water and finally settling back for sleep - I woke up again 3 hours later to nearly the same episode - but this time I was less stupid and took some damn pills to stave off the death. So thennnnnn at 'round 6:05 or some shit I awoke again for good, my throat burning and drenched in sweat.
And I began to read, being already a good quarter of the way through, maybe more. And read. And read. And choked on flem. And then read. And then coughed down cereal only to chuck it up 3 minutes after my last spoonful. Then read. And then slept for an hour. Awoke choking; thought better to stay reading. Stayed reading 'til I passed out again. Read and read and read and I've been reading and trying to avoid life and phone calls (except for a few from the boo-boo, Dave ) and just immerse myself in the world JK was so skillfully pulling together for me, in full circle. An end but a beginning. An end to her brilliant narrative - but the beginning of even more life that her characters and plot lend to we fans and even more - the crazy lot of us fanfic writers who appreciate her tale, but honor our own. ;] (That said, I still hail Sevmione and Drarry above all, bitches!)
The book wasn't perfect. But what the fuck is? I scowled slightly of the shoved-in-as-to-avoid-revolt kiss between Ronmione and raised a brow at the sickening sweetness of the almost-too-good-to-be-realistic epilogue drowned in its flowery prettiness of "Rose" and "Lily" and "Albus Severus" (I laughed too, Rach - but at least that bitch knew better than to leave Snape's name out!) upon our beings so that the ten year olds being read the tale from mommy could have premature orgasms at knowing everything had ended just right.
But I loved it. I do love it.
Especially Snape. *LICK* *FAT GIANT -OMG I KNEW YOU FUCKING LOVED LILY YOU ADORABLE CUTE LITTLE LILY LOVER YOU- LICK* Guys, we called this. At least a few of us I did. Called the planned death between he and Dumbledore, called the longing from Snape to Lily - so upon reading "The Prince's Tale" I was less surprised than utterly justified and complacent. Ohhhh how I can't wait to brag to the fuckwads who went all "SNAPE IS SO EBIL!!!!!!!1111!!! OMFG HE KILLED DUMBLY OMGGG I SHAT MYSELF11!! DIE SEBERUS DIE." (= Fuck you, all who did not trust in Snape!
Severus. Oh dear Sev. When he died I stared at the words in shock, in awe as JK's audacity (Btw - watch your children bitch, I warned you about harming him :]). The tears didn't come until later, the stemmed tears being released from shock into misery and reverence on page 687 (uh, U.S. hard copy) when I had to face the fact that the doe patronus was his - his love for Lily. We all had speculated that his patronus was something fierce, a snake to rival Nagini or a jaguar as sleek and black as Snape's frock coat. But a doe? And because his undying love for Lily? When he replied to Dumbledore's question "After all this time?" with "Always" my face crumpled completely ... even now ... fuck ... I can't help but tear up. I miss him already. </3
I think Snape's final words, "Look ... at ... me" to Harry explained a lot of significance about Lily's green eyes that JK always blathered about. Snape accepted his death upon gazing into the green he had always loved. It did say that he died a second within the eye contact. RIP you fucking sexy beasttt. I'll meet you there ;]
There's so much more in my heart that's bubbling about Severus --- but I have to move on or this will NEVER end,
really,
because I could go on about Snape and his bravery and his blazing hotness forever and ever.
But moving on...
*sigh* Nothing seems as important.
Oh yeah - Harry lives! Whoop. Yay. Here here. (Who fucking cares, Snape is dead *weeps*) ... And his gratitude to Snape after all he saw in the Pensieve? A fucking middle name to some Slytherin-fearing punk Ginny births years later. In MY humble opinion the little fuckwit should have been named Severus Snape Potter ( ;D) ... but when does JK ever listen to me?
I was pleased with the pace of the story (though "clunky" at some portions, as The New York Times claimed), the progression of JK's final plot, the ties that the tale made to weave together a web of sense and victory to all reading. Yum. Enjoyed Neville's bravery (I'd so suck his dick after that war), Harry/Ginny (Never minded them together really, but still would prefer him with Draco), Snape's chapter, the tale of the Deathly Hallows which made me finally appreciate the title (before I was all WTF? You're ending the series with the word 'DEATHLY'?! What happened to a little hope JK... but now I get it =]) - just as a whole I think the final book was the -almost- perfect adieu bidded to such a monumental and addicting series and world that JK fostered and now we behold.
Didn't like Ronmione (uhhhh duhhh), Ron's bitchiness somewhere in the middle, Fred/Tonks/Remus dying (*sniff* Not enough credit given to them in the end, I think they could have been stuck in the epilogue somewhereee [AKA why the fuck are you naming your son 'Hugo', Ron, when you brother died by your side] and was a little bemused by Teddy "snogging" a "Victoire" which I would have bet money on being a fucking guy if all of them hadn't been so accepting of it [btw - cousin? Sooo... is that Bill's kid?]), the moany-ness of Hermione after Ron copped out (see, they bring out the worst in one another... ), and how when Harry finally defeated Voldemort it seemed a bit rushed, even though I know it probably wasn't after 740+ pages, but still the quickness and finality of it made me have to double take.
I did like how she tried to fool us at first, with Harry being "dead" and all, and appreciated how she tried to backtrack and explain some of her madness with his conversation with Dumbledore (nice to have his narrative included in the story). The epilogue was a little too sugary - I think it may have been better to be not so centered on Ron, Harry, and Hermione's kids, but instead based around many fleeting (but substantial in idea) glimpses/details into many people's lives after the war (a la the Dark Marks' epilogue - haha - from EE...) Now I'm left to wonder of Luna, the rest of the Weasley's, Ted's life beyond kissing some "Victoire," and bahhh so much more I can't even think of it.
More that I liked: Narcissa's never ending, almost Lily-like defense of her son, Molly calling Bellatrix "BITCH" (such a glorious moment - I cackled with glee - finally, JK, some reality amidst the cookie-cutter dialogue), Muriel (she's one of those 'lol @ that bitch' characters), finally learning of Dumbledore's background (Poor Ariana? And oh - Aberforth is fabulousss - goat fucking or not!) and ahhh so much more I'm sure I won't even think on it until later.
So minus the epilogue the book was triumph, to me. And not because Harry defeated evil for all time - but because it ended as it began - with dignity, humor, and simplicity amongst a thick plot and colorful characters.
I'm only so sad to see it go. But I'll never let go, like that crazy bitch from Titanic. =D
Now off to reread Snape's part again... 'cause he matters most to this bitch! But I'll probably be back soon with the many musings I no doubt have yet to spew to youuu. And I know you love how I make everything pertaining to myself a novel to rival JK's ;]
